Moshe "Pommy" Hadar

He…advocated, humane and fair treatment for all

Why a Site

After my father, Moshe "Pommy" Hadar passed away, his office held dozens of documents and hundreds of writing gems. Historical documents and milestones that are interwoven with the State of Israel.

I felt a sense of responsibility and a historical commitment to scan, catalog, edit, and preserve the past for future generations and history buffs. I also experienced self-satisfaction in telling the story of one man, one family and endless branches.

Like newspaper or book pages, the web pages encompass different contents, which allows the user to read text and see still images. Moreover, the Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext, documents, sounds, video and more. Pommy, the forever maverick communicator, always strived towards an advancement, linking and publishing fresh materials with a twist.  Therefore, the Internet felt the natural place to “park,” publish and share his history and work.

For years, I explored our family history, tracing their lineages and carving them a place in the larger historical picture. I found that my family is linked with varied characters, and figures that left their personal marks in connection to the Israeli society and Jewish history in the diaspora. Some of their life histories, passed on via a word of mouth, some was documented and some have never been told. I only discovered it, randomly through research and cross-examination of documents.

Important details can be lost if you do not record them. Like, relationships, similarities, fascinating stories, history, works, surprises, scandals, health problems and favorite recipes. But it is equally important to bequeath – a living memory – to future generations, with the identity of the family and its founders on all its branches.

In the near future, I will document fascinating figures of relatives from the diaspora and Israel, who reached out to help the Israeli and Jewish dream become a reality. In addition to entrepreneurs, intellectuals, artists and heroes, I will document individuals, who only few of us are aware of their existence and/or contributions.

I would be very happy if you took part and helped me in this journey into the past, with documents, photos, story or stories about Pommy or other relatives. Provide me materials that have not yet been published, nor written nor received the proper recognition.

Thank You

Etti Hadar
