weightlifting and the Munich Olympics

As a teenager who was also a national weight lifting champion, Ronnie had the privilege of visiting the Olympic Village as a guest of the Israeli delegation during the 1972 Munich Olympics.  During his stay in the Village, eleven of his friends and fellow athletes were slaughtered there by terrorists.  This incident ignited a passion in Ronnie for matters concerning security and anti-terrorism, which has grown stronger with each passing year.  Ronnie’s own life was spared thanks to unforeseen circumstances.

In 1972, days after returning from the Munich Olympics, Ronnie enlisted in the Israeli Military where he served for three years in a special Intelligence unit focusing on areas such as Dignitary Protection, Counter-Terrorism, Aviation Security, Hijacking Prevention and Field Security. Ronnie served in the Yom Kippur War in 1973. During his time in the Israeli Military, he also served as a Senior Instructor in the Israeli Army Intelligence Academy.

Ronnie served as a Reserve Aviator with the California Air National Guard in the 1980’s.  He is an instrument rated commercial pilot for single and multi-engine planes (Pistons and Jets) as well as helicopters and is Part 135 (air carrier) qualified.  He has served as a pilot on many international jet flights, from the US to Mexico, Canada, Bahamas and Puerto Rico, as well as numerous cross-Atlantic flights from Southern California to Europe and the Middle East.  He is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association (AOPA) and the Airborne Law Enforcement Association (ALEA).

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Paralleling his career in the Hollywood entertainment industry, Ronnie continued his quest to maintain both active participation and to further his education in the fields of Law Enforcement and Aviation.  Realizing that these professions demand masterful command of highly perishable skills and frequently require split second life-and-death decisions, Ronnie devotes a large amount of time, on a regular basis, to his in-service training and to accumulating hands-on experience with such agencies as the FBI, Border Patrol, US Customs, U.S. Air Force, Israeli Police, Israel Security Agency (ISA) and numerous Sheriff and Police Departments throughout the world.  He is a graduate of the Israeli Army Intelligence Academy, LAPD Academy, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Academy, the Riverside Sheriff’s Academy and holds a current California POST Certificate.

Ronnie’s service to the law enforcement community is unique and considerable.  Post 9/11, he increased his volunteer time to over a thousand hours per year to fight the Global War on Terror and Crime.  He joined the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in 1998 and worked there for over ten years as an Extra Help Deputy and Reserve Deputy Sheriff at Central Station Patrol.  He retired from the Sheriff’s Department as the Commander of the Specialized Enforcement Division Reserves (S.W.A.T., Crime Impact, Gangs, Intelligence, and Bomb & Arson) in 2009.

Ronnie has a continuing association with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) where he has been a sworn Line Reserve Police Officer since 1994.  For the first thirteen years, he has been assigned to the LAPD’s Air Support Division as Flight Operations Officer followed by a two-year assignment at the Counter–Terrorism and Criminal Intelligence Bureau.  Currently, he serves as a Patrol Reserve Police Officer, as well as Vice and Detective assignments for the Crime Intelligence Detail (CID) at LAPD’s Topanga Community Police Station, located in Canoga Park, California.  He is certified as a Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) and is the Assistant TLO Coordinator for LAPD Operations-Valley Bureau. Additionally, he is the Officer-in-Charge (O.I.C.) of all LAPD’s non-geographic Bureaus Reserves, holding the rank of R-7 and is a member of the Board of Directors of the LAPD Reserve Foundation since 1994.

Ronnie is a founding member of the LAPD team that created and developed the worldwide counter-terrorism advertising and marketing campaign iWATCH and implemented the slogan "See Something, Say Something."
